Residential Elevators: Generally the units are just a smaller light version of the larger commercial units. They can be
purchased in either a roped hydraulic design or a cable lifted unit with a winding drum machine. Their capacities generally do not
exceed 1000 pounds and can be designed for a variety of landing configurations.
Wheelchair lifts: Wheelchair lifts are designed to move a person using a wheelchair. Usually a platform with shorter walls
and swinging gates for access. The means of operation are hydraulic, cable or screw shaft and the average capacity is 500 pounds.
Vertical Recipricating Conveyor: A vertical reciprocating conveyor is a unit that is designed very similar to a floor loading
dumbwaiter, however has a larger potential size and capacity and is only permitted to carry freight. They are generally used to transport
goods to a basement, mezzanine or balconies in a plant or warehouse.
All three of these units have certain requirements for codes and testing are vary between states.
