Machine Room Less Elevators (MRL)

Machine Room Less Elevators (MRL): The term ‘Machine room less’ elevators comes to mind. This new technology minimizes the effects of an elevator on the usable floor space in a building. Currently only available in cable traction, there are future plans for hydraulic. In both cases the cable hoisting machine or hydraulic pumping unit is placed within the elevator hoistway eliminating the need for a large machine room located adjacent or remote to the elevator hoistway. There is only a need for a relatively small controller room/closet, which houses the elevator controller and electrical panels.

Dumbwaiters: Essentially a very small cable traction elevator car for moving freight only, not passengers. They are available to carry capacities from 100 pounds to five hundred pounds, limited to 9 square foot platform and have a maximum interior height of 4’. They are available with floor loading or counter loading heights.
