About Us

Stanley Elevator has been operating on the principles of honesty, reliability, and personal service since our first elevator installation in 1951. Our very first customer, Saint Anselm’s College in Manchester, New Hampshire, still relies on us to this day for quality elevator service. We take pride in the fact that most of our early customers continue to use our services.

We believe that our ability to garner long term customer relationships is directly related to the fact that we have never lost sight of the core principles that our company was founded upon. The world has changed a lot since 1951, but one thing that has not changed is our commitment to providing our customers with honest service they can rely upon.

Take a look at the timeline below to learn more about our story.

1951:

St. Anselm’s College in Manchester, New Hampshire asks Irving M. Stanley to install an elevator in the college’s administration building. Irving Stanley installs a used elevator system for $7,500. After making a higher profit than he had originally expected, Stanley tried to return money to the college. St Anselm’s was so satisfied with Stanley’s work, however, that they insisted he keep the money and continue to service the unit after the installation was completed. This elevator was the founding of a relationship that has lasted over 50 years, and also represented the beginning of Stanley Elevator as we know it today.

1954:

Irving Stanley, along with sons Warren, Bill, and Richard, approach Rotary Lift Company (later Dover Corporation) to become an authorized dealer in Maine and New Hampshire. Stanley Elevator installs its first Rotary Lift passenger elevator in the fall of 1954.

1959:

Rotary Lift Company is split into two divisions by Dover Corporation. The name Rotary Lift lives on through automobile lifting equipment, while Dover Elevator Corporation becomes responsible for freight and passenger elevators. Stanley Elevator begins installing Dover Elevator equipment in Maine, New Hampshire, and Massachusetts.

1987:

Dover Corporation takes over new elevator sales in the Boston high-rise market. Stanley Elevator retains its current territory of Maine, New Hampshire, northeastern Massachusetts for new elevator installations. Even today, Stanley still services, repairs, and modernizes elevators within greater Boston and all throughout the New England area.

1999:

Stanley Elevator moves its headquarters from Pine Street Extension in Nahsua, NH to a new facility on Henry Clay Drive in Merrimack, NH.

2000:

ThyssenKrupp purchases the elevator division of Dover Corporation. Stanley Elevator begins installing ThyssenKrupp equipment manufactured in Tennessee and Mississippi.

2008:

Stanley Elevator completes its first machine room-less elevator installation in Bangor, Maine. Our expertise and ability to install this new technology makes us a key player in the market for energy efficient elevator solutions.

2010:

Stanley Elevator opens a new office/warehouse facility on Apple Road in Lewiston Maine. The Lewiston facility will help us provide an even better service to our customers across the State of Maine.
